Walk-and-Talk and Outdoors Counselling in Birmingham, Solihull and Nationwide Online

Hi, I'm Adam!

I offer counselling for adults in Birmingham and Solihull, including outdoor and walk-and-talk therapy. I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, overwhelm, burnout, low self-esteem and the feeling of having lost connection with themselves. Many of the people I support have spent years overthinking, pushing through or trying to cope alone. I help people navigate these issues through nature-based sessions that allow you to breathe, hear yourself think and simply be.If you are interested in working working together, I offer a free, no-obligation 30-minute introductory call so you can get a feel for how I work before booking. About Me

I became a counsellor because I believe that there is no greater force for healing than human relationships. I am endlessly fascinated by the ways in which we come to be the people we are—both in the struggles we face, and the ways in which we can ultimately find acceptance within ourselves.Because of this, I feel incredibly privileged to sit with people in their pain and suffering, while also witnessing the joy, the beauty, and the wonder of transformation that a therapy relationship can bring. It is an honor to help others, as I myself have been helped, in their ongoing journey of becoming.

What is Nature-Based/ Walk-and-Talk? Therapy?

Nature-based or walk-and-talk therapy (also known as ecotherapy, or simply nature therapy) moves our sessions from a confined room into the natural world. It is a grounded way of working that uses the green environment to support your mental and emotional health.

Confidentiality is central to my practice and begins the moment you reach out. Having this secure boundary is what makes counselling different from talking with a friend or family member. There are very few circumstances where confidentiality might be broken, and these relate primarily to safety. If I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, I may need to share information. We will discuss these boundaries clearly during our first session so you know exactly what to expect. As a registered member of the BACP, I follow their ethical framework. I also meet regularly with a qualified supervisor to review my work and ensure I am providing the best possible care. This supervision process is entirely confidential and follows the same BACP guidelines to protect your privacy.

Outdoor sessions are available at Highbury Park in Kings Heath, or at Clowes Wood in Earlswood (near Birmingham and Solihull) if you prefer a slightly wilder, more natural environment.Indoor sessions are held in private therapy rooms in Kings Heath. I also provide remote walk-and-talk and traditional online sessions using Google Meet, WhatsApp or phone call for clients located further afield or looking for scheduling flexibility.

I provide both short-term support and open-ended, long-term counselling depending on your personal goals. A few focused sessions are often enough to work through a specific issue, while deeper or more complex concerns generally benefit from a longer, ongoing approach. We will discuss what works best for you during our initial time together.

Sessions typically take place on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I generally recommend this frequency to maintain continuity and prevent sessions from feeling like we are simply catching up on past events. However, I understand that everyone's circumstances are different, and I am entirely open to discussing alternative arrangements that better fit your specific needs and schedule.

My standard sessions are 60 minutes long, which applies to all outdoor and remote appointments. The only exception is for indoor, in-room sessions, which last 50 minutes due to room booking policies and scheduling constraints.

I offer a free initial 30-minute telephone consultation so we can discuss your needs before you commit to a full session. If we choose to work together, individual rates are £50 per hour for outdoor and remote sessions, and £60 per 50-minute session for in-room appointments.Full payment is required prior to your scheduled appointment time.

If you need to reschedule, please let me know as soon as possible and we can look at alternative times.I operate a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, the full session fee (£50 for outdoor/remote or £60 for in-room) will still be payable.

Outdoor sessions generally go ahead in rainy or windy conditions, unless the weather becomes dangerous or high winds pose a safety risk. You are responsible for wearing appropriate clothing and footwear, and I highly recommend checking the forecast on the morning of our appointment.Navigating less-than-ideal weather is actually a powerful way to build resilience, and outdoor conditions can often mirror our 'internal weather' in ways that deepen the therapeutic process. If I do have to cancel a session due to dangerous weather, I will offer you the choice of a traditional online session, a rescheduled outdoor time, or a full refund.

Outdoor sessions continue throughout the winter season, provided the weather remains safe to do so.If we usually meet during daylight hours, our schedule will stay exactly the same. However, if your appointments fall outside of daylight hours during the winter, we can easily transition to a remote online or telephone format to ensure our work continues consistently.

This initial call is a brief, informal opportunity for us to connect and see if we are a good fit for working together. There is no pressure to dive deeply into your history; instead, we will use this time to briefly discuss what is bringing you to therapy and what you hope to achieve. It is also a chance for you to ask me any questions about how I work, my locations, or logistics. By the end of the call, we can decide if you would like to move forward and book your first official session, or whether you may need more time to think before proceeding.

Because I offer different ways of working, the format of our session depends entirely on what we agree fits you best:

  • Outdoor Therapy (Stationary or Walk-and-Talk): For woodland sessions, we meet at a pre-arranged spot near the entrance. From there, we can walk to a private, secluded "consulting room" area of the woods for our main work, or we can choose to walk continuously for the entire session. In both formats, we explore what is on your mind at your own pace, often integrating quiet reflection, breathwork, or moments of still nature connection. We always use the final walk back to the meeting point to wind down and ground ourselves.

  • Remote Walk-and-Talk: If we work via telephone outdoors, we each walk through our own respective green spaces while speaking. This allows you to benefit from the movement and environment of your local nature while still receiving dedicated, professional support over the phone.

  • Traditional Indoor & Online Sessions: For in-person rooms or video calls, the session follows a traditional therapeutic structure. We sit together in a private, comfortable space—either physical or virtual—where you have my undivided, deeply focused attention to explore your thoughts and feelings completely free from judgment or pressure.
